More than 20 DoD and VA Hospitals use IM Therapy. Interactive Metronome can be used for PTSD and blast-related brain injury.
*** TIMING 4 LIFE / INTERACTIVE METRONOME IS A MEDICATION FREE APPROACH TO PTSD ***
This podcast highlights smoothing the rough edges caused by PTSD and research on TBI combat veterans (2+ years post injury).
Journal of Neuropsychology Sept 2013 Effects of Interactive Metronome Therapy (IM) on Cognitive Functioning after Blast-Related Brain Injury: A randomized controlled pilot trial. Nelson LA1, Macdonald M, Stall C, Pazdan R.)
This TBI study shows improvement in sensory integration, memory, processing speed, impulsivity, and attention after just fifteen sessions.
The study concludes that the addition of IM therapy to standard rehabilitation care appears to have a positive effect on neuropsychological outcomes for soldiers who have sustained mild-to-moderate TBI and have persistent cognitive complaints after the period for expected recovery has passed.

TBI Patient Testimonial - Automobile Accident
Kelly B. was eighteen years old when she was severely injured in an auto accident. She broke her back in four places (fracture of three thoracic vertebras and a compression fracture of the L3 vertebra). She broke her pelvis in three places, and unknown at the time she suffered an undiagnosed Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
After attempting to return to school and failing, she was taken to a specialized outpatient brain injury rehabilitation center, where pre-treatment assessments revealed significant impairments in attention, concentration, memory, word retrieval, auditory comprehension, reading comprehension (reading at first grade level upon admission), and executive functioning (abilities to anticipate, plan, organize, initiate, self-evaluate, problem-solve, and reason). Kelly began her rehabilitation in April with her IM provider. She received weekly therapy that initially consisted of IM 3x/week followed by brief focus on training of compensation strategies for organization and memory.
Post-testing revealed improvement in all areas of speech-language and cognitive functioning. Reading improved to college-level performance, even without specific reading intervention. Kelly completed make-up assignments from high school, something she’d previously been unable to do, in order to obtain her high school diploma. She finished rehabilitation in August, after just 4 months, having passed her driver’s evaluation. On her last day of therapy she drove herself from St. Petersburg to Tallahassee, Florida to live independently and begin her college career.
She has since exhibited exemplary academic performance while carrying a full load course and was inducted into the International Honors Society of Phi Theta Kappa. Today Kelly continues her academic studies as a pre-med student with particular interest in Neurosurgery.
